Program evaluation and strategic planning essentially work hand-in-hand. Strategic planning focuses on the betterment of the school and its programs; and through evaluation, improvements to resource materials and teaching practices could be identified. Both strong and weak areas in student learning and success are focused on to resolve any existing problems or to prevent any potential problems from arising. Furthermore, program evaluation provides clarity for all stakeholders to be continually involved and supportive of the school initiatives and to keep goals realistic.
To establish a reflective inquiry environment, communication of program evaluation need to clearly express how staff or individuals are safe from being judged and that the target is to fully develop a strong school strategic planning process. New initiatives are filtered to be measurable and multiple evaluation questions are answered per data collection, with the flexibility of having some unanswered questions. The processes and results are to be openly shared and celebrated along with those involved.
Such an environment is a means of reflecting the school’s effort in keeping up with the demands of its established culture of diverse student and staff demographics. The community is encouraged to be involved in helping each other grow and to be adaptable to change as it occurs at a global level. In my experience, the environment plays a huge factor in gaining personal success. The influences of those around you inevitably builds the level of expectation you have for yourself and affects the choices that you make. Hence, a collected group willing to make progress and to communicate with one another will take the time to reflect on what has past, what is present, and what would soon follow; and to ensure time is used most efficiently.
